Cost option 1 – Remove heat recovery

The first option is to remove the engine exhaust heat recovery heat exchanger, and just run a radiator to waste the heat produced by the generator. This is a great choice if your business doesn’t have a practical use for the heat captured by the cogeneration system.

Option 2 – Swap to Synchronous generator

Another option, which will suit some projects, is a conventional synchronous fixed speed generator rather than an inverter generator. This utilises the proven fuel management and engine but avoids the cost of the power electronics. 

If your project can work effectively without the features of power electronics, then this option may be for you.

The capacities offered are:

  • 30 kW at 1500 rpm normally aspirated
  • 50 kW at 1500 rpm for forced induction

Option 3 – Utilise used engines

Making use of quality used engines in the cogeneration power plant has proven very popular with many of our primary producer customers reducing their initial investment costs.

Used engines have provided around 8000 running hours under varying, often harsh, conditions across a range of applications. This option offers a very cost-effective alternative for many cogen power systems.

As well as saving on maintenance costs, your business is re-using a product that would otherwise be scrapped for nominal value – which is a great environmental benefit.
